Phnom Penh, June 21, 2024 – Marking the 17th anniversary of Cambodian Veterans Day on June 21, Prime Minister Hun Manet issued a message emphasizing the nation's gratitude towards veterans for their service and sacrifices.

In his statement, the Prime Minister extended thanks to the Cambodian Red Cross, development partners, non-governmental organizations, and philanthropists for their steadfast support to veterans and their families. This support also extends to the elderly, disabled, widows, and families of fallen soldiers, contributing significantly to enhancing their living standards and overall well-being.

In a series of six appeals, the Prime Minister called on all ministries, institutions, military units, and local authorities to organize visits to local veterans, including those in armed forces, veterans' alliances, those receiving medical treatment, and those residing in veterans' centers. These visits are intended to offer encouragement and strengthen bonds with the veterans.

The Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation was urged to continue delivering effective support services and to ensure the provision of social security for veterans and their families through the National Social Assistance Fund. The ministry is also tasked with advancing housing projects for veterans included in the Royal Government’s public investment plan.

The Cambodian Veterans Association is encouraged to enhance the societal role of veterans, urging them to embody solidarity and support within their communities and to engage actively in the nationwide movement for excellence.

Additionally, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, is instructed to effectively implement policies on social land concessions for former armed forces members and their families.

The Prime Minister also directed the Ministry of Information to ensure that both public and private media outlets disseminate the Royal Government’s message and information about the veterans' contributions widely, both nationally and internationally.

Concluding his message, Prime Minister Hun Manet called on all Cambodian veterans to uphold their heroic and dignified spirit as exemplary citizens, setting positive examples in society.
